To adhere to the Buddhist tradition and Buddhist resolution, Shaolin Temple’ s five bhikkhus in the form of hiking got to the aim in their mind--the Jiuhua Mountain. However, on the same day last year, another five bhikkhus of Shaolin Temple-- master Yantang, master Yanchuan, master Yanxing, master Yankun and master Yanchi, set off from Shaolin Temple to the Wutai Mountain on foot, with a distance of 1500 kilometers over 23 days.

To men of practice, affirmation of self and affirmation of dharma always follow each other like a shadow, which must be broken by advancing on foot. Monks on foot are wordless all the way. On the one hand, this is to keep power. On the other hand, this is to insist on their original conscience all the time. Thus hiking is a process of firm cultivation for Buddhists and is also fulfilling the way of Bodhisattva. (Edited by Zou Xiang, photographed by Zhao Yongjie and Wang Furuo)
