The Opening Ceremony of “the 6th Shaolin Kungfu Class of African Students of the Ministry of Culture” is Held in the Shaolin Temple

On June 14, 2018, the opening ceremony of the 6th “Shaolin Kungfu Class of African Students” that was organized by the Ministry of Culture was held in China Songshan Shaolin Temple solemnly. 22 African students from the Central Africa, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Burundi, Mali and Gibb formally were apprenticed to learn martial arts, stay in the Shaolin Temple and start their 3-month cultivation life. Hundreds of people, including the Abbot of China Songshan Shaolin Temple Shi Yongxin, Deputy Director of the Cultural Department of Henan Province Kang Jie, Director of Cultural Exchange Liaison Office of Cultural Department of Henan Province Zhang Songtao, Monastic Manger of Shaolin Temple Master Yankang, and other leaders and distinguished guests as well as all the African students of the 6th Shaolin Kungfu class, Shaolin monks and believers of the ten directions, joyfully participated the opening ceremony.



In the ceremony, the Abbot Yongxin gave a warm welcome and his best wishes for their coming of all the distinguished guests and African Students of the 6th “Shaolin Kungfu Class of the Ministry of Culture”. The Abbot Yongxin said that, “China’s President Xi Jinping pointed out: ‘China-Africa relations entered the best period in history. The bilateral ties should take a long-term perspective and stride forth. China will work hand in hand with nations across Africa, pool the strength of 2.2 billion people in China and Africa and jointly open a new era of the win-win cooperation and joint development of China and Africa.’ ”


“With the special charm and brand advantage, Shaolin Kungfu received a lot of praise in many countries of Africa. Shaolin Kungfu has influenced Kungfu lovers of many countries and always make them has a “Shaolin” dream in their heart. It is hoped that students could deeply experience Shaolin culture and study Shaolin Kungfu in the next three months. You will help each other, respect the teachers, love friends, forgive in life, study and train hard, get used to Shaolin life as soon as possible and forge ahead on the new journey of Shaolin Kungfu.”



Deputy Director of Cultural Department of Henan Province Kang Jie reviewed the five sessions of “Shaolin Kungfu Class of African Students of the Ministry of Culture” having achieving effective results. She spoke in her speech that China-Africa friendship has a long history. Under the joint initiative of China and Africa, China and Africa jointly established “China-Africa Cooperation Forum” to enhance exchanges and cooperation in the area such as political, economic, cultural and others of China and Africa. The opening of the training class is an important measure to implement the important commitment of the 2016-2018 Johannesburg Action Plan for China-Africa Cooperation Forum. It is significant to further enhance cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Africa. “Shaolin Kungfu Class of African Students” has been held for five sessions now and has cultivated more than 100 Shaolin Kungfu students for African nations, which is welcomed by the people of African countries. It is hoped that the students of this session could “cherish the precious opportunity of training, learn and experience a lot during your stay in Shaolin Temple. Once back home, you could bring the authentic Shaolin Kungfu, traditional Chinese martial arts and Chinese culture to Africa and contribute to promoting the integration of culture and civilization between China and Africa as ambassadors for cultural exchanges between China and Africa.”





After the end of the opening ceremony, everyone watched Shaolin Kungfu performance together and got applause from audience. African students were amazing and completely overwhelming by Shaolin monks’ unrivalled Kungfu. They are full of confidence and expectation for cultivation life in Shaolin Temple. They successively expressed that they will be hard training for Shaolin Kungfu, study Shaolin culture and traditional Chinese culture and make their best contribution to the profound friendship between China and Africa.




In the next three months, students not only need to study Shaolin Kungfu, but also learn Chinese, practice calligraphy, study Chan, realize the truth and cultivate massage and acupuncture while being visiting Henan province, experiencing the local customs of Henan and appreciating splendid Chinese culture.

“The Shaolin Kungfu Class of African Students of the Ministry of Culture” has been successfully held for five sessions in the Shaolin Temple. Hundreds of students from more than 20 countries, including Senegal, Cameroon, Benin, Mauritius, Guinea, Comorin, Madagascar, Gabon and other countries, successively received the systemic Shaolin Kungfu training. After returning their own countries, many students spread the lifestyle of Shaolin, teach Shaolin Kungfu and build brides for friendly exchanges between China and Africa, which receives people’s warm welcome.
