It is traditional Chinese New Year on Feb. 11, 2021. Under the leadership of abbot Shi Yongxin, Shaolin monks followed the Chinese tradition of thousand of years to review and rate poetic couplet, worship ancestors, stay up late on New Year’s Eve, strike the bell for blessings and welcome the Lunar New Year together.
Shaolin Temple collected lamp offerings on line. Shaolin monks represented believers offered lamps together to bless the Lunar New Year, good weather for the crops and the country’s prosperity and people at peace.
The Dining Hall prepared hot pot for everyone at the New Year’s noon and hand-made dumplings at night, enriching monks’ New Year foods. Facing steaming hot delicacy, monastics kept five contemplations within their heart and mind, expressed their gratitude to the charity of the ten directions and transferred merits and virtues to the ten directions.
A grand dharma assembly was held at the Mahaviro Hall and Abbot Hall of Shaolin Temple on the Chinese New Year’ s eve. Abbot Yongxin burned incense and presided over the assembly to bless the country’s prosperity and people at peace, good weather for the crops, the epidemic disappearing and happy New Year of the whole country.
Abbot Yongxin climbed up to the Bell Tower and stroke the bell of the New Year at 0: 00 o’ clock on the 1st day of the first lunar month in Xinchou Year. The bell and the Buddhist music haunted the ancient monastery for miles, standing for a time of national peace and order.
Shaolin monks raised up the national flag and offered sacrifice for Buddha to welcome the New Year’s coming under the leadership of venerable abbot Shi Yongxin.
