On May 19, 2021 or the 8th day of the fourth lunar month is Sakyamuni or Buddha’ s birthday. To honor the country, benefit sentient beings and pray for the people, Shaolin Temple’ affiliated temple--Ciyun Temple in Qinglong Mountain of Gongyi city hosted the celebration of the Resurgence of Ancient Temple ? the 20th Anniversary, and the blessing assembly of the Buddha’ s Birthday. Leaders and guests present at the event included master Shi Yongxin, vice president of the Buddhist Association of China, president of the Buddhist Association of China and abbot of Shaolin Temple, Li Zhanlong, chairman of the Gongyi Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, He Chuanwei, member of the Standing Committee of the Gongyi Municipal Party Committee and secretary of the united front work department and so on.

The celebrations of the Resurgence of Ancient Temple ? the 20th anniversary were hosted as scheduled in front of the Hall of Heavenly Kings at 10 am.

In his speech, secretary He Chuanwei said as an affiliated temple, Ciyun Temple gave full play to its advantages to stick to Buddhist tradition, patriotism and love of the religion, propagating Buddhist doctrines, benefiting sentient beings and servicing the society, actively promoting sinicization of Buddhism and implementing the Regulations of Religious Affairs, contributing to local economic cultural construction in 20 years.

Master Shi Yongxin gave a dharma teaching. He mentioned, “Ciyun Temple was originally built the seventh year of the Yongping period in the Eastern Han Dynasty (64), and is an ancient temple of the Central Plains. I sent my disciple master Yanchao to live in Ciyun Temple in 2000 and hosted the celebration of the Resurgence of Ciyun Temple on the 8th day of the fourth lunar month, 2001. With joint efforts of master Yanchao, disciples, lay Buddhists and believers of the ten directions, Ciyun Temple has gradually restored the past solemn appearancein 20 years. It is hoped that master Yanchao can guide disciples and lay Buddhists to make persistent efforts to love the country and the religion, benefit sentient beings and service the local economic and social development, making Ciyun Temple become the spiritual home of the local believers.

Master Yanchao, abbot of Ciyun Temple, introduced Ciyun Temple’ s development history of 20 years to everyone. He said, “I came to Ciyun Temple in Qinglong Mountain in early 2000. The rough mountain road descended into the valley, surrounded by mountains and high mountains folded. There was a long-lost feeling in my mind instantly when I first came here. In recent years, with master Shi Yongxin’ s care and love, and joint efforts of disciples of Ciyun Temple and people from all walks of life, the construction of halls in Ciyun Temple restored. The ancient temple has returned to its former glory. These marks that last thousands of years witnesses the rise and fall of Buddhist history, and also leave a thick and heavy in color for inheritance and development of Chinese culture.

Then master Shi Yongxin, master Yanchao, master Yanci, master Changming and all high monks from around the country presided over the blessing assembly for Buddha’ s Birthday at the Great Buddha’ s Hall of Ciyun Temple. On the occasion of special causes and conditions, these merits and virtues from the blessing assembly were transferred to benefactors and the public devoting themselves to the development of Ciyun Temple in 20 years. All elders and believers of the ten directions successively bathed the Buddha after the dharma assembly.

During the period, Shaolin Kungfu monk corps delivered a wonderful Shaolin Kungfu performance for people, winning all applause and cheers from audience, which pushed the celebration’ s atmosphere to a new high.

Ciyun Temple actively promotes sinicization of Buddhism, advocates patriotism and love of the religion and carries forward the excellent traditional culture of China by ways of Buddhist blessing, cultural exchange, tea forum and others.
