To further experience the broad and profound Chinese culture, under the leadership of the head Master Yanliang, a line of 21 students of Austrian Shaolin Cultural Center studied and experienced in the Shaolin Temple, the ancestral monastery of Chan sect from August 15 to 28, following Shaolin monks to study, live, practice Kungfu, sit in meditation, read various books from both home and abroad in the Shaolin Temple Library and hear abbot of the Shaolin Temple the Great Monk Yongxin’s compassionate dharma teaching. Each one was full of dharma joy and benefitted a lot. These students are from Austria, Germany and Italy while the youngest is just 6 years old and the oldest is 77.

During a half-month learning, living and experiencing, students from Austrian Shaolin Cultural Center, together with Shaolin monks, went to the temple court for morning recitation and had meal. They learned Shaolin Kungfu systematically, life regimen, Chan medical, Chinese language, calligraphy and other courses in the morning and afternoon, practicing meditation in the evening. Their everyday life was very regular and the learning content was substantial. Through a half-month experience, their body and spirit attained liberation and delight. Sedwen, a student of the cultural center, said that it was the first time for him to come to the Shaolin Temple for worship and study, feeling the Shaolin tour profoundly influencing his life. He perceived the mercy, peace and calmness while also understanding the profound significance of Shaolin Chan, Wu (martial arts) and Yi (medical) culture.

During this period, they also visited the Zhongyue Temple, Songyang Academy, the White Horse Temple and other traditional Chinese cultural destinations. The students of cultural center also participated in the grand flag-raising ceremony and the Ullambana Celebration. At departing, they were reluctant to say goodbye to the Great Monk Yongxin, vowing to put forth their best efforts to spread and carry forward the Shaolin culture in their countries.
